Some Basics

Our Primary Source is Christ

Christ is the word that was in the beginning and is eternal. Jesus of Nazareth was Christ made flesh and we listen to, and follow His teaching both within each of us and together as a community. The writings of the Bible and of former Friends help us to understand our experiences of Christ. We believe in a present living Spirit that is with every person of every generation in every age. For this reason we focus on living our life now as Christ teaches us and not just on the end of our lives. When we live our lives in this way, to the best of our ability, we have nothing to fear when our bodily life comes to an end.

Quakers or Friends interchangeably

Those who know about us talk about Quakers, but we prefer to say Friends. “You are my friends if you do whatever I command you.” John 15:14

Direct relationship – God speaks to each of us

The voice is small and still and calls for close attention. Stillness, silence, ignoring the bustling world help this; 1 Kings 19:12. The amazing thing about the Quaker Way is that there is no intermediary required, we all are welcome to enjoy direct relationship with Christ (God) to lead and guide us. This is empowering and puts each on an equal footing as disciples in Christ.

We worship in silence, listening for the still small voice

The less form in religion the better, since God is a spirit (John 4:24); for the more mental our worship, the more adequate to the nature of God; the more silent, the more suitable to the language of a Spirit.

We are an International internet fellowship

At present we come together using the internet regularly to worship and also to chat together.

Testing and Unity

Friends have long known that our personal discernment needs to be tested in the group. Unity only comes through hearing Christ’s teaching together.

These ideas bring us together as a group

Christ leads like minded people to come together under His headship.

You are all welcome

Jesus Christ is the particular Way we follow but William Penn said, centuries ago, “The humble, meek, merciful, just, pious, and devout souls are everywhere of one religion; and when death has taken off the mask they will know one another, though the divers liveries they wear here makes them strangers.”
